Obama Slam Dunks Birthers and Trump

Score one BIG for Obama on the birther issue. In releasing his birth certificate. Obama not only magnified the “silliness” of the matter but the racism associated with it. Short form, long form, and all the rest, the president given enough proof of his citizenship. Let’s be very clear: if President Obama wasn’t black, no American would be challenging his citizenship and “unalienable” right to be president just like his white predecessors.

Equally grotesque is the mainstream media’s reluctance to even hint at the obvious racial undertones to the birther movement against the president. (While the birther movement was started by Democrat supporters of Hillary Clinton, it is conservatives who have strengthened it, keeping it alive and brewing.)

This was a brilliant, calculated public relations move by Obama not only because it blunted Donald Trump’s insipid rants on the topic. But more importantly it reinforced the public’s perception that the Republican Party is a den of racists loathe to have anything to do with inclusion. The numbers support this notion. A recent CBS/New York Times poll found 45% of Republicans don’t think Obama was born in the United States. This kind of thinking has been lambasted by prominent conservatives like Karl Rove and George Will because they know this kind of incendiary rhetoric doesn’t win elections much less the hearts and minds of voters.

Will described the birther hysteria fomented by Huckabee, Gingrich as “vibrations of weirdness emanating from people associated with the party” and when not denounced by Republicans, “the conservative party is indirectly injured.” Finally, Will concludes “the sensible American majority” would not vote for a GOP candidate associated with such a wing nut party, which brings us to Donald Trump.

Donald Trump landed in New Hampshire yesterday to engage in a fantasy exercise of preparing to run for president in 2012. In an attempt to look presidential, Trump strutted to a banquet of microphones with his comb over askew and declared victory in pressuring the president to prove he is black and a US citizen.

“Today I am very proud of myself. I have accomplished something that nobody else has been able to accomplish. I was just informed, while on the helicopter, that our president has released a birth certificate.”

Well, Mr. Egomaniacal Trump is sorely mistaken. He didn’t force the president to DO anything. While I certainly wouldn’t have endorsed such a strategy, Obama played a brilliant chess move in the game of politics. Obama Hussein Barack threw a pie in the face of the birthers and Trump stood up and let it smack him right in the face as their leader du jour. Trump did accomplish something yesterday. The Donald threw his credibility as a potential 2012 presidential candidate under the bus and further soiled the Republican Party’s image.

Donald Trump’s “me, myself and I” routine may work well for his business endeavors and his Apprentice franchise but it’s already becoming a hackneyed sideshow with unsavory racial undertones to the 2012 presidential election. As a Republican, I would like the party to support a candidate in 2012 that actually has a chance of winning and all this birther talk is an ugly distraction. Do us a favor Mr. Trump, either shut up or change your tune because Obama slammed dunked you and your birther kin.

Not hardly. Already this copy of a document is being exposed as a lousy attempt at fraud. You should really look into it before you accept ANYTHING from this White House at face value. Anyone who can use Adobe Illustrator can show you why this is fake in under two minutes. Trump knew exactly what he was doing, this will continue to dog Obama as it will only raise more questions about why he would put out yet another fake.

Trump is only out to make Trump the center of attention. President Obama is actually a mulatto. He has a Black father and a White mother.

As a young conservative living in a liberal area of the country I make almost no efforts to talk politics anymore because the GOP is just so damn embaressing. And the aggravating thing is that they continue to pander to the fringe demographic conservative that everyone else hates, the old-racist-rich-white people, even though in a generation or two those old stereotypes and sentiments aren’t going to appeal to a sizable portion of our country anymore. But since I see no signs of the GOP getting its act together before them I fear by the time that comes no one is going take conservatives seriously on anything.

I believe that you are entirely wrong and are committing the same sin as the left, that it, making a blanket statement about an entire group with little to back it up except wild accusations. Obama has no-one but himself to blame for this. He should have released his long form 2 years ago and shut everyone up but instead stone-walled and fought to keep it secret. I, for one, simply could not understand why he did this. Whats the big deal. Besides, wanting the President to follow the Constitution dosn’t have anything to do with race. For the majority of us out here it has to do with unaccountable politicians who think they are above us all and who are we to question them ( charles rangle, hillary clinton, fill in the blank ). I know many “birthers” being one myself and only a couple of the weird ones way out there say anything about race.

@Paul: You got it. Everyone fell right into “The Donalds” trap. The issue is a legitimate one that the Pres could have stopped long ago and after seeing way too much Trump the last few weeks I sure wish he had.

  7. Mark says:

@JonP: I am a think you are wrong…Trump’s reference to “the” blacks said it all. Trump is not KKK racist. He is more like “hey, what’s that black guy doing here?” racist.

  8. Mark says:

@JonP how is Crystal “committing the same sin as the left, that it, making a blanket statement about an entire group with little to back it up except wild accusations” …is this not what the Birthers are doing? The entire Birther movement is based on “little to back it up except wild accusations”.

Holding politicans accountable is a great thing but when you bring up false claims to undermine his “citizenship “as an American, you have gone to far.

People are trying to cast Obama as a secret Marxist who is also a radical Muslim, who was not born in the US. Its that narative that people are trying to push….not your claims of innocent accountability.

The birther movement is not a “government accountability” movement and you know this – stop playing games!!

Something is wrong with “black conservative” I just don’t get their mind set Adam west, Alan Keyes, and larry Elder need to be on someone couch and looking up at a white ceiling. How can you be in this conservative moment, you are working against your best interest. I’m not saying that the Democrate party is all that but damn.

  10. Anthony says:

So let me get this straight. Anyone who questions Obama’s eligibility is a racist? Maybe some people, but I find such remarks highly offensive. My integrity is being questioned now. Are you aware that forensic scientists confirmed this latest so called “birth certificate” as a fraud? Honestly, it doesn’t matter if its real or not at this point. This is just something used by the mainstream media to distract people from real issues. The evil things that were cooked up by elitists under the Bush administration are clearly continuing under the Obama administration. When you run on change & then re-do everything Bush did(some things worse) You prove yourself to be a fraud anyway regardless of the question of his legality. Come on people, let’s get back to the real issues. It doesn’t matter what some legal papers say(although if not US born, it is unconstitutional, but we don’t know so we can’t speculate, only go on facts) What does matter, is a guy who promises to do all these things to change things & makes an entire campaign out of smearing & trashing the administration before him, only to turn around & continue the ridiculous policies that got us in a mess. So my point is, if the MAN has proven himself to be a fraud, why do we need to worry about some piece of paper to justify it? VOTE RON PAUL 2012. WAKE UP PEOPLE.

I can’t see how anybody with a shred of intelligence could believe all this birther nonsense.
